Not a Complete Washout

This year, it rained a ton over the 4th of July weekend.  It rained so much that we decided not to drive to a nearby town to get fireworks because there was water covering the roads.  But there were just enough breaks in the weather that allowed us to enjoy the holiday.
Friday night my parents had a fish fry at their house.
The kids enjoyed looking at a tank full of snapping turtles that my brother had caught.

Of course, the little boys had to poke at them a little.
There were a few fireworks set off by the kids, and a few coolers blown up by the adults.
And of course, there was visiting and drinks enjoyed by all!
Saturday morning we woke up to another break in the rain, so the boys headed outside to set off some smoke bombs.  Bo was not interested in lighting anything this year.  He really didn't like any of the fireworks this year at all.
Saturday evening, after more rain during the afternoon, we headed to a barbecue at a friends house.  It worked out perfectly with their large porch to keep everyone dry.
The adults were largely out numbered by the kiddos.  The kids didn't care if it was raining or not, they still set off their fireworks.
Sunday, on the actual holiday, it was so gray and dreary that we layed in bed most of the day watching movies and just hanging out.  Around 4 o'clock we thought we'd try to head to Goddard and pick up some fireworks.  We were pretty surprised to see that most of the streets in town were flooded and the big ditch on the main highway was about to spill over.  We used our better judgement and headed straight to the party (which was in the other direction with no flooded roads).
Thankfully, there was a break in the rain from about 6 o'clock to about 10.  This was the first year we'd been to my aunt and uncle's house for the 4th, but we'd heard how exciting it could be.   They had the best shrimp and potatoes we'd ever eaten.  Although it may not look appetizing in this pic, the food was awesome!

My uncles that had blown up the cooler on Friday night had a few more surprises up their sleeves for this night.  See this lovely outhouse decorated so nicely?  Now you see it...
Still see it???
Now you DON'T!

Ummm, yes, they blew that shithouse right up!  They went on to blow up the mailbox and various other things around the yard.  Nice example for our children, huh?  They were very proud of themselves...

Before it got dark my brother pulled up with his friends in his RV.  I made sure to try out the drivers seat :)
But don't worry, we didn't move an inch.
Here's some more evidence of the fun we had celebrating the 4th!

Wow, that is crazy that they blew that little building up! And you look pretty good driving that RV!
