Farming

My husband is now calling himself a farmer. Who would've ever thought?!? Last year we came upon some farm ground that we thought would be a good investment for our future. It's been a factor in deciding whether or not we could afford for me to be a SAHM. We are relying on these crops to produce so we can continue to live comfortably. Like I said, who would've ever thought? The farm is located about 35 minutes west of here, Kelly swears its only 25 minutes, either way, its quite a drive. He would love to go out there a couple of times a week, while I'm perfectly fine going out maybe once a month. I love the outdoors, but I usually come home with several chigger bites in some VERY uncomfortable places.

Bo is ecstatic when we tell him we're going to the farm. We usually see a couple of deer running through the fields that he loves to shoot with his finger.

There is a small portion of the land that is good for hunting and could use a good cleaning up. Therefore, Kelly thought we needed to purchase a tractor!! I don't think I'vc seen him quite so excited about something in...well, ever. Bo is equally excited about the tractor that has a "bucket". We haven't hauled it out to the farm yet, but Kelly and Bo go out to my parents house every chance they can to take rides and push brush around out there.

Our nieces and nephews are very excited about the tractor too...as you can see ;)

Fast Forward

We have been very busy recently. I am loving this fast forward pace that time is moving in! I am 31 weeks pregnant this week and I feel like the babe will be here before we know it. I am sure the last few weeks in August will creep by, but at this point I can't complain. Except for the fact that I can't sunbathe the back of my legs or paint my toes, I'm enjoying being preggers!

The past few weeks we have been busy with weddings, camping and playing outside constantly! Bo has transitioned very well into his new big boy bed. Now if we could just get him to sleep before 10:30 P.M.!! Kelly and I feel like we have no time anymore to watch TV or relax in general. I guess we'd better get used to it with a newborn on the way! We look forward to keeping up our busy schedule by trying out a new water park tomorrow then heading to KC this weekend for a wedding and a Royals baseball game for Father's Day. Here are a few (ok-ALOT) of pics to sum up the last couple of weeks.

Snickers Pie & Orange Julius

Since I've been home this summer I've been baking more than ever! Actually the two recipes I'm going to share you don't actually "bake", but are great for cooling down during this summer heat! Frozen Snickers Pie is a new recipe I made for the first time to take to the lake for the Memorial Day weekend. I'd say it was definitely a hit and very easy to make! Orange Julius is one that we used to make when I was little, so the recipe may need to be tweaked a bit because it's just what I remember from memory. It did turn out pretty good, although Kelly suggested more ice cream....um, honey there is NO ice cream in orange julius!

Frozen Snickers Pie
Graham cracker crust (I think a chocolate Oreo crust would be good too)
1 quart vanilla ice cream, softened
1/2 tub cool whip
Approx. 2-3 Snickers candy bars, chopped (butterfingers would be good also)
1/4 cup chocolate Hershey's syrup
1/4 cup caramel ice cream sauce

Mix softened ice cream with half of the chopped candy bars and cool whip. Spoon mixture into crust. Drizzle with chocolate and caramel sauces.
Freeze for 4 hours. Decorate pie with remaining candy bars.

Orange Julius
1 can frozen orange juice concentrate
1 cup milk
1/2 cup sugar
1 tsp. vanilla extract
10-12 ice cubes (or as many as you want to get the consistency you like)

Combine all ingredients except ice cubes in blender. Blend for about 1-2 minutes, adding ice cubes two at a time.
